What is Band?

Message from the directors:

Parents, think about enrolling your 6th grader in the school band. It nurtures musical skills, enhances cognition, teaches discipline, and fosters teamwork. Your child gains confidence, emotional expression, and lasting friendships. Exposure to diverse music broadens horizons, and it can lead to scholarships. Don't miss this valuable opportunity. EVERYONE is welcome to JOIN BAND at CROCKETT MIDDLE SCHOOL. Beginners start in 6th grade with a choice of instrument. PLAY the INSTRUMENT MATCHING GAME. You may make your selection from the list of instruments. You must make a 1st choice, 2nd and 3rd choice of your instrument you'd most like to play. Sometimes, we do not get our 1st or 2nd choice, but the 3rd choice is always a great choice as well. Join US!

Students who participate in music have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society.

H. Con. Res 266 United States Senate, June 2000

Students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation.
